Will I need a line driver for my amp to improve my car audio sound?

Hong Hunkin: on subs no neeed unless you plan on underpowering the subs then yes, to back off the gains. But if u have adequate power then I say no need . This is a delicate issue debated many times over in car audio forums. try joining one. diymobileaudio

Cole Desher: The 75+75 amp will run either the 6x9s or the 200 watt 6" subs. The 500w subs will need a stronger amplifier. A note to 0nc0m, I recommend a bucket to put over your head. Why would you discredit another answer and end your bucket analogy with a statement like " I think you need a capacitor also." There is absolutely no need for a capacitor here with only a 150w amp. Unless you are talking about a small capacitor to be used as a HPF, but you already said scott's answer was wrong, so I assume you really have no clue what you are talking about. 0nc0m also said the amp is not gonna blow the sub or anything, why? because the the amp is less power than the sub or speaker or anything. WRONG- A weak amplifier ! will destroy a speaker just as easily as an amplifier that is twice as much as the speaker needs. How? An amplifier that is too weak will be pushed to the point of distortion just to get a moderate volume from the sub. The problem is a distorted sound wave or square wave does not move the sub enough for it to cool itself, heating up the voice coil and causing it to melt and short out. I'll be the first to point out if someone is wrong, but there was nothing wrong with scott's answer. Electricity is not as easy as pouring water in a bucket, there is alot more to it than that....Show more
