How many people are into genealogy?

Jimmie Doerfler: If you compare it to other hobbies like football or photography, it's certainly not very popular, but those who enjoy genealogy tend to keep it as a hobby for their entire life.Unfortunately I only know two other people in "real life" who are into genealogy, and I don't know them well enough to be chatting with them about it. Nobody in my family is intereted, and I'm very young, so none of my friends are interested in their family history, so I have nobody to chat about it with. From that point, it's a very lonely hobby for me. But I know that when I get older, people will begin to wonder about their families, and ask me about mine. Arlen Decorte: Just ! looking at this site says there are many I've only been playing around with it for about 6 months an I'm totally hooked on it

Miguel Densley: UK answer.I don't think its that popular, but there are more and more people getting interested. I know lots of people have approached me for help to get them started, so I think with the tv programs such as *who do you think you are* and *heir hunters* there are lots more people wanting to take up their own challenge.

Ambrose Mumma: Well, there are 3 of us working on my maternal family and 4 of us working on my paternal family. As for genealogy being as hobby, I disagree.Collecting baseball cards is a hobby.Collecting thimbles is a hobby.Genealogy is far more than a hobby for most of us.It's a passion for knowledge of those who came before us, a sense of knowing where we belong and, in some small way, a means to make our own mark on our family history. When I began my quest 30 years ago, I truly believed I was doing it for ! my children and future generations, when in reality, I was doi! ng it for myself....Show more
